The NW Art department recently hosted its Earth Day Art Show, to provide social awareness for the environment. All art was made from recycled materials including shopping carts, plastic bottles, tennis balls, pop cans, cardboard and other creative objects. About 50 art students participated in the show.

“There was wonderful creative work. Some were impressive, and others more so. Though the rooster is outstanding, I respect any type of art. There were some pieces where you could tell that the students took their time,” art teacher David Hunt said.

Freshman Tanner Hammond created the aforementioned rooster from recycled Cola cans. Hammond called his piece “Coke a Little Doo’’.

Sophomore Amy Hein created a abstract piece from newspaper and other trash. Senior Lindsey Peavler created a collage out of sticks, leaves, recycled water bottles, magazines and newspaper called, “We are what we toss.”

“It is wonderful to see that students at Northwest are becoming environmentally aware,” Hunt said.
