Dressed in tie-dye T-shirts, acid wash jeans and aviator sunglasses, approximately 100 parents and students attended the Student Council Mother/Son Father/Daughter Dance in the cafeteria on Nov. 12.

“It’s a dance that we do for juniors and seniors, where you come dressed as a decade, like the ‘50s, ‘60s, ‘70s, ‘80s, and I think we added the ‘90’s this year,” StuCo representative Raegan Wilks said. “It’s a really fun time to be goofy and dress up.”

The dance also served as the beginning of the Canned Food Drive Northwest hosts to benefit the Johnson County Christmas Bureau. Parents and students were required to donate canned goods and personal hygiene items, along with a $5 fee, to attend the dance.

“It’s a competition between juniors and seniors. They’re supposed to bring cans for their class, and when kids and parents check in, StuCo takes the cans and adds them to your class total,” Wilks said.

StuCo raised $647 and collected 205 cans at the dance. To contribute to the Canned Food Drive, which will run from Nov. 14-18, bring non-perishables to your fifth-hour class.
