  • If you missed the first meeting, there will be a second Sleep in a Box Informational meeting on Wednesday, March 24th at 7:05 in Little Theatre. If you’re an active member of StuCo, CCC, Varsity Drill Team, Amnesty International, Interact Club, IB, Key Club, Coalition, or NHS, please come to the meeting to receive the info packet. You must come to this meeting in order to participate in this event! See Emily Ferbezar or Mrs. Dent in room 132 for more information.
  • Attention Northwest! Tryouts are over and the talent show is on. Be here tonight at 7 p.m. in the auditorium to see the great talent of Northwest! Tickets are $5 or $3 with an activity pass. Don’t miss it!
  • Seniors: A reminder that if you are planning on applying for any of the following scholarships they are due to Mr. Giacalone prior to leaving for Spring Break on March 12th. Shawnee Mission Scholarships, Physics Scholarship, JCCC Presidents Scholarship, or Shawnee Mission ELL Scholarship. These must be turned into Mr. Giacalone by March 12th or they will not be accepted.
  • Attention Juniors: Euro-Trip is back. Have you ever wanted to travel to Europe and see all of the different sites from World War 2? We will start in London, then travel to Normandy and Paris, France. After that we will go to Hitler’s Eagles Nest, Berlin, and end at the Dachau concentration camp. If you would like information on this great trip see Mr. Stubenrauch in room 133. We will have a short informational meeting tomorrow in room 133 at 2:50.
  • Attention all math students!!! Mathletics will be held today at Shawnee Mission North. It starts at 3:30. Come early with your pencil and calculator! See Ms. Barger with any questions.
  • Future Teachers of America members need to attend this week’s meeting at 7 am on Thursday in room 230. We will be setting up for the Student Teacher Party, nominating Prom candidates and selecting our Teacher of the Month winner. Lots to do so come help out! See you Thursday at 7 am.
  • Interact Club will have a very special meeting this Thursday, March 11th. We will be having the installation of next year’s officers. Come meet and greet our new leadership.
  • All Student Teachers are reminded to attend the Student Teacher Party during Seminar on Thursday in room 230. Come let us feed and entertain you for an hour! This party is sponsored by the Future Teachers of America Club.
  • All junior members of NHS interested in running for an office next year-must attend one of the Exec. Board informational meeting on either Wednesday at 2:45 in room 128 or Thursday at 7:15 in room 131.
  • JV/V Girls Basketball Players you need to return your gear to Coach McIntosh by Friday morning.
  • 720 Kansas Marketing Students competed at the 2010 State Career Development Conference this last Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday. The following SMNW students deserve recognition: Senior Carter Clond earned 6th place in Restaurant and Food Service Marketing. Junior Chris D’Silva earned 1st place in Principles of Business Management with 1st on the written exam and 3rd on Role Play. Junior Ibrahim Elandaloussi earned 6th place in Principles of Hospitality and Tourism with 4th on the written exam. Senior Tyler Nepote earned 1st place in Sports and Entertainment Marketing with 1st on written exam, 1st on Role Play 1#, and 5th on Role Play #2. Junior Jon Sestak earned 2nd place in Principles of Finance with 5th on the exam and 1st on the Role Play. Sophomore Austin Tyler earned a 5th place in Principles of Business Management and 3rd on the written exam. Chris D’Silva, Tyler Nepote, and Jon Sestak qualified for International competition in late April. Congratulations to these students.
  • There will be a football meeting tomorrow morning in the weight room at 6:45. Breakfast will be served. Camp forms will be handed out at this time.
  • When is the last time you did the hokey pokey of the limbo? We have a great opportunity or you to revive those hidden talents. On the last weekend of Spring Break, when you are looking for something FUN to do come roller skating! Mark this down, Sunday night March 21st at Skate World on Shawnee Mission Parkway from 8-10 p.m. Cost is $7.00 and is sponsored by your SMNW PTSA.

  • SMNW’s Mock Trial team once again qualified for the State Mock Trial tournament which will be held in Wichita on March 27th. The SMNW team will be one of eight teams competing for the State title and the chance to attend the National competition in May. Congratulations to the following students: Amit Bhatla, Adam Chase, Sarah Hansen, Makela Hayford, Kristen Onions, Mehak Sood, Elodia Terrazas, and Erica Waltman. Good luck at State!
  • Attention all soccer girls-The decision to practice inside or outside will be made near the end of the school day. If we practice inside, ALL teams will meet in the mall area at 3:00 in runners. If we go outside, teams will report to the turf field at usual times. Again, an announcement will be made at the end of the day. Questions see Coach Boren in room 121.

  • Attention all Junior and Senior who signed up for the BLODD DRIVE tomorrow, March 9th! Students will receive their blue blood drive pass today during 5th hour. If you do not receive your pass or still want to sign up, please go to room 132 immediately after school. Remember students: please drink lots of water today, get a good night’s sleep, and eat a balanced breakfast tomorrow before you donate. See Eric Zoellner or Mrs. Dent for questions.
  • The winner for the “Best Crossword Puzzle” is Jennifer Francisco. Come to the library for your fabulous prize!
  • The SMNW Dodge ball tourney was a huge success this weekend raising over $600 for the Johnson County Christmas Bureau. The winning team that will represent NW at the District Dodge ball tourney in April included Chris Mansker, Alex Geis, Matt Nowak, David Catt, Brian Ayers, Rachael Zdeb, and Lisa Imgrund. StuCo will keep you posted about the district tourney date and time. Thanks to all who participated!

  • The Cougar Robotics Team capped off a busy build-season with an outstanding performance at the FIRST Robotics Kansas City Regional last weekend. In the qualifying matches the team won 7 matches, lost 2, tied 1 and ended up being ranked 17th out of 61 teams. Cougar Robotics was chosen to be part of a three team alliance that went on to the final rounds. This alliance fought hard, but was eliminated in the quarter-final matches. The Robotics Team worked very hard this year and that work paid off in their performance last weekend. If you see a team member today, be sure to congratulate them on a job well done. Way to go NW Cougar Robotics!

  • Congratulations to sophomore Marcus Paccapaniccia and seniors Loryn Goebel and Laura Highland for participating in the State Bowling Tournament last Thursday and Friday in Wichita. Marcus Paccapaniccia bowled a 210 average to take 29th in the field of 72 participants. Loryn Goebel bowled a 625 series and earned an 8h place finish—the highest state finish by any bowler in Northwest history. Congrats on a great season!
  • All Track and Field athletes must attend tonight’s Parent/Athlete Meeting in the Auxiliary Gym at 6:30 pm. Also-orange eligibility cards are due this Thursday, March 11th. To be eligible to compete after spring Break-your card must be in this week with acceptable grades and conduct.
  • Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) meets tonight from 7:30-8:30 p.m. at Community Covenant Church’s Fish Tank, 15700 W. 87th St., Lenexa. It’s FCA Camp night. Spend an evening with your friends and learn about the great summer camp opportunities FCA has to offer. We’ll have plenty of fun, fellowship, and food. Bring a friend.

  • Attention film makers! Get creative and produce a film for the District-Wide Five Minute Film Festival. The deadline for submission is Friday, March 26th at 3:00 p.m. to Shawnee Mission East. You must pick up a film guidelines packet in the office for more details. We hope to have some Cougar representation in the festival!

  • SMNW will be hosting the boy’s sub-state game tonight at 7 pm. The boy’s will take on the Loins of Lawrence High School in the first game on their way to the state tournament. Student ticket will be $4.00; adult tickets will be $5.00. All students and faculty must pay to get into the game. It is a state sponsored event.

Help your cougar basketball players’ coast to state again this year! RIDE THAT TIDE OF NORTHWEST PRIDE!
  • Attention all National Art Honor Society members: If you missed the meeting last Thursday, Agendas and Calendars are available on the board. We will be discussing a final design today, so please attend.
  • Key Club members; there is a meeting Friday at 7:10 in room 155. Bring convention money and form. We will be checking service hours.
  • Wrestlers clean your equipment. Wrestlers, who have not turned in equipment, will meet in the wrestling room immediately after school today to turn in equipment, clean out lockers, and turn in locks. You must do this to be eligible for end of the season awards.
  • Basketball Band members are reminder to wear BLACK SHIRTS tonight for the game.
  • Choir students-reminder that you have rehearsal today during seminar. 1st session-all girls to the choir room; and 2nd session-all boys to the choir room.

  • Twenty one eastern Kansas schools met in Lawrence in Friday to compete in the Kansas Scholastic Press Association Regional Journalism contest. Eighteen Northwest students placed in the contest and will advance to the state competition in May. Honorable Mentions were awarded to: Hannah Williams and Caitlyn Massy in Caption Writing; Tyler Absher in Editorial Cartooning; Lauren Komer and Wyatt Anderson in News Writing; Tyler Gilliam in Newspaper Sports Writing; Ashley Lane in Photo Illustration; Daniel Bauer in Sports Photography; Annie Unruh in Theme and Graphics; Ian Miller in Yearbook Copy Writing; Ed Spaunhorst in Yearbook Sports Writing; Annie Unruh was awarded 3rd place in Yearbook Layout; Brianna Leyden 2nd place honors in Editorial Design; Ashley Lane in Newspaper Design; and bringing home 1st place awards were: David Catt in Feature Writing; Caitlyn Massy in Student Life Photography; and Ashley Lane in Academics Photography.

  • Summer School enrollment will be available at NW today from 3-6 p.m. in front of the main office. See your academic counselor to get a summer school enrollment form.
  • There will be a meeting for all those interested in trying out for cheerleading and yell-leading for the 2010-2011 school year today after school in room 101. The morning meeting will be at 7:15 and the afternoon meeting will be at 2:45. This meeting is mandatory because the program is required to get teacher evaluations prior to tryouts. If there is a school conflict that prevents you from attending, you should contact Ms. Thompson right away. Again the meetings are in room 101 at 7:15 a.m. or 2:45 p.m.

  • Attention Robotics team members: Please be sure to pick up a Consent and Release form from Mr. Stewart if you have not received one already. This form must be filled out, signed, and returned to Mr. Stewart prior to the competition on Thursday.   • Attention all NW dodgeballers! Get an information packet in room 132 and sign up NOW for the second annual SMNW Dodgeball Tournament. PACKETS ARE DUE TODAY! This tourney will take place on Saturday, March 6th at 9:00 am in the gym. The cost is $10 per player and all the proceeds will go to fund the Shawnee Mission Educational Foundation. There will be student teams and faculty teams (six people per team)! The winner will go on to a district tournament in April to compete against all the other Shawnee Mission high schools! See Nolan Parker or Grant Pittrich with questions!
  • There will be a meeting for all those interested in trying out for cheerleading and yell-leading for the 2010-2011 school year on Wednesday, March 3rd before or after school in room 101. The morning meeting will be at 7:15 and the afternoon meeting will be at 2:45. This meeting is mandatory because the program is required to get teacher evaluations prior to tryouts. If there is a school conflict that prevents you from attending, you should contact Ms. Thompson right away. Again the meetings are in room 101 at 7:15 a.m. or 2:45 p.m.

  • Shawnee Mission North’s NJROTC which includes Northwest students swept the competition Saturday, February 20th, in the NJROTC Regional Championship. The team finished first in all 11 events of the competition. It is the first time in the Regional Championship that one school has finished first in all areas! It was the fourth consecutive year that they have been the Regional Champions and the victory ensured their 5th consecutive appearance in the National Championships in Pensacola, FL. They will defend their National Drill title in April. The team faced 43 schools this year in head-to-head competition and have a record of 43-0!!!

  • Congratulations to the girls and boys JV bowling teams. They completed their seasons with a combined 62-1 record. The girls dominated every team they competed against as they went an undefeated 31-0. The boys also had a perfect February and finished the season with a 31-1 record. The boys and girls Varsity teams compete tomorrow in the Regional Tournament for the opportunity to go to state. The action takes place at Mission Bowl in Olathe. The boys bowl at 9:00 and the girls bowl at 11:00. Come support your bowlers and cheer them on to victory!
  • Attention all girls wanting to try out for soccer on Monday. You must see Coach Boren today and pick up information about the try out schedule for next week. Also, this is your last reminder that you must have your physical on file with Cheryl Horseman in order to tryout on Monday. If you have questions, please see Coach Boren in room 121.
  • Track & Field try-outs and practice begin Monday, March 1st. In order to participate on the team this spring you must have already “signed up”. The team roster has been turned into Mrs. Horseman at this time. Meet immediately after school Monday in the main auditorium before practice begins. Be prepared for the cold weather with sweats, hats, and gloves.

She marries when she wants to and has healthy children, raising the standard of living for her entire family and community. The other option is this: none of this happens because she is illiterate, married at a young age, pregnant, and likely to have HIV. She also lives in poverty.   • The SMNW Boys Swim and Dive team had an excellent showing at the state meet by finishing 11th. Led by Jens Thomsen, who finished 16th in the 200 IM and 6th in the 100 breast, his 200 free relay of Lars Winkelmolen, Clay Coffman, and Alex Severance finished 7th overall. The 200 Medley relay of Thomsen, Benjamin Koeller, Severance, and Winkelmolen was 12th overall. Winkelmolen was 10th in the 100 breast while Coffman was 14th overall in the 50 free. Freshman Koeller was 12th overall in the 500 free while senior Cameron Keeling was 10th overall in the diving competition. The 400 free relay of Severance, Koeller, Coffman, and Lee Jacques was 14th overall in the meet. Way to go guys!

  • The Ladies Bowling team medaled for the 1st time in school history at the Sunflower League bowling tournament on Saturday. The girls took 3rd out of 12 teams. They needed a huge comeback after being in 9th place after the first game. Laura Konency had her first 200 games in competition with scores of 233 and 204. Laura finished 5th overall out of the 70 bowlers. Janie Queral and Laura Highland also finished in the top 20. The boys bowling team struggled to find consistency and finished 6th overall. Nick Michalski was a bright spot as he averaged 230 for the day, placing him 3rd overall out of 72 bowlers. . Congrats Cougars!

  • Congratulations to the wrestling team for their Runner Up finish at Regionals this weekend. Chandler Gordon, Ross Whitmore, and Tyler Deal placed 1st, Colby Everett and Nick Caldwell placed 2nd; Will Greenhaw and Reed Bowker placed 3rd; Dylan Swoyer, Blake Covington and Bobby Urteaga placed 4th. It was a great day for Cougar wrestling and Shawnee Mission Northwest as all 10 of these guys qualified for the State Tournament in Wichita this weekend. This is the most we have qualified for State in 20 years. The State Tournament starts Friday morning at 9:00 am, and continues on Saturday morning at 10:00.

  • Fashion Careers 1 is inviting YOU to the 2010 Fashion Show, “Candyland” in the SMNW auditorium at 7 pm Thursday, February 25th. A donation of $3 will be collected and a portion of the proceeds will be donated to American Red Cross to help Haiti Relief victims of the earthquake. The show will only be during the evening to raise money and will not be during the school day…so please come support your fashion careers classmates by attending the annual fashion show THIS THURSDAY evening!

  • Congratulations to the girls and boys Varsity bowling teams on a record breaking season. The boys ended the regular season with just three losses, and the girls were only defeated once in regular season play. The Cougars will send three bowlers to the state tournament in Wichita this week. Sophomore Marcus Paccapaniccia was the 10th place qualifier at Regionals. Senior Laura Highland finished 2nd at Regionals –the highest of any female in school history. And senior Loryn Goebel finished 16th overall to earn her spot at the state tournament. Congratulations Cougars on a great season.
  • Attention all girls wanting to try out for soccer: Tryouts begin today and we will be going outside-make sure that you are dressed appropriately. Group 1 will need to report to the track/turf by 3:00 dressed and ready to play. Group 2 will need to report to the turf by 4:00. If you do not have your physical on file with Cheryl Horseman, you cannot work out today. If you have questions, please see Coach Boren in room 121.

  • Attention all NW dodgeballers! Get an information packet in room 132 and sign up NOW for the second annual SMNW Dodgeball Tournament. PACKETS ARE DUE TOMORROW! This tourney will take place on Saturday, March 6th at 9:00 am in the gym. The cost is $10 per player and all the proceeds will go to fund the Shawnee Mission Educational Foundation. There will be student teams and faculty teams (six people per team)! The winner will go on to a district tournament in April to compete against all the other Shawnee Mission high schools!   • There will be a meeting for all those interested in trying out for cheerleading and yell-leading for the 2010-2011 school year on Wednesday, March 3rd before or after school in room 101. The morning meeting will be at 7:15 and the afternoon meeting will be at 2:45. This meeting is mandatory because the program is required to get teacher evaluations prior to tryouts. If there is a school conflict that prevents you from attending, you should contact Ms. Thompson right away. Again the meetings are in room 101 at 7:15 a.m. or 2:45 p.m.
  • Congratulations to the wrestling team for their 12th place finish at the State Wrestling Tournament last weekend. Ross Whitmore was our highest placer with a second place finish. He will attempt to break a long standing record or most career wins as he has amassed an impressive 105 wins in three years. Chandler Gordon placed 3rd at 103; Nick Caldwell placed 6th at 160. It was a great weekend for Cougar Wrestling and Shawnee Mission Northwest. Thanks for your tremendous support this season.

  • The boys and girls JV Bowling teams are your Sunflower League champs this year. The girls dominated from the outset yesterday. Medalists included Kai Teel 2nd, Liz Nelson 3rd, and Kaylee Trost 6th. In fact out of the 55 girls from all 12 teams, all six of the Cougar Ladies placed in the top 10. WOW! The undefeated ladies record in now 29-0. The boys came from behind after two games to beat Olathe North and win the tournament by just 16 pins. The medalists were Josh Bryant 2nd and Chris Goodman 3rd. Branford Harris finished 10th overall as well. The boys record is now 29-1. Way to go Cougars. Come cheer on the Varsity bowlers as they compete for the Sunflower League Championship tomorrow at Olathe East Lanes at 9:40.
  • LADIES AND GENTLEMEN (announcer voice)— if you want to be a part of the first Northwest Talent Show in decades, come to room 132 to sign up and get the rules! Student Council is hosting tryouts on March 3rd before and after school in room 37 but you MUST sign up first. All music, dance, acting, stand up, poetry, and variety acts are welcomed! Help make this event one to remember.

  • There will be a parent/athlete meeting for the Girls Swim & Dive team on Thursday, February 25th at 6:00 pm in cafeteria 3 & 4. Meet the coaches, pay team fees, suit fees, and t-shirts. Please attend with at least one parent if you plan on swimming or diving this season.
  • Registration for AP tests will begin on Monday and continue until March 12th. See Ms. Nick in the counseling office for a registration form and return the form and money to her before March 12th.
  • WPA pictures will be distributed on Tuesday, February 23rd, in front of the Auditorium during all three lunches. Be sure to stop by and pick up your pictures.
  • Congratulations to the Lady Cougar C-Team basketball players on their hard fought win over Leavenworth last night. The Lady Cougars fought back from a 7 point second half deficit to earn the hard fought victory. Great job Ladies!

  • All four Cougar Bowling teams beat SM South and Olathe South yesterday on senior day. Shane Jennison opened the day with 9 strikes until a shaking 10 pin prevented his attempt at a perfect game. Shane averaged 231 and Nick Michalski averaged 218 for the day. Nick Land also bowled a career high series. The boys have won 13 matches is a row now. The ladies also completed a perfect day. Senior Laura Highland averaged 191 and Janie Queral had the team high and is averaging 205 for the month of February. The JV girls continued their perfect season thanks to Jessica Prater’s 198 and Liz Nelson’s 190. The JV boys and girls compete in the Sunflower League Tournament today in Mission.

Jessica Prater was the star of the day with her 220 game, which was actually the 3rd highest score of the day including all the boys. Medalists for the ladies included 2nd place Jessica Prater, 3rd place Liz Nelson, and 5th place Kaylee Trost. The boys also dominated the medal stand as Josh Bryant was 2nd, Thomas Kohler 3rd, Branford Harris 5th, and Chris Goodman 6th.   • The Annual Great Works Concert will be held at Community Covenant Church, 15700 W. 87th Street Parkway, Lenexa, tonight at 7:00 p.m. admission is free. The concert will feature the Northwest A Capella Choir & Chamber Singers, the Northwest Chamber Orchestra, and a combined performance of Mozart’s “Regina Coeli”.   • Key Club is collecting personal care items for Heart to heart until February 24th. Watch for posters with the list of items. Bring items to the library and be sure to sign up for the prize drawing. Prizes will include movie ticket, ticket for Snow Creek, and more!
  • Attention to all ELL students going on the Field Trip to JCCC. You must give Ms. Ledbetter your field trip form by the end of the day today. Also, the bus will leave at 8:30 tomorrow, so we will meet at the office at 8:20.
  • All National Honor Society members who have signed up for Read Across America. You need to pick up your field trip form from Mrs. Deines or Miss Haake and have it assigned and returned by Friday, February 19th. If you do not have it turned in by the end of the day on Friday, you will not be able to participate.
  • Future Teachers of America members need to attend this week’s meeting at 7 a.m. on Thursday in room 230. We will be planning the Student Teacher Party and making invitations. Bring your party ideas! See you Thursday at 7 a.m.
  • All crossword puzzle winners are gold medal winners! This week’s winner is Glen Toren. Come to the library to claim your valuable prize!

  • Seniors: A Physics scholarship for SMNW graduating seniors has been established. Students who will plan to attend a Kansas College or University and have completed or enrolled in a minimum of Physics 1 Honors and earned a B or better grade may be eligible.   • Attention all ladies and gentlemen attending WPA on Saturday, February 13th, tickets are on sale in the mall during all three lunches-today is your LAST day to buy them! Tickets are $18 for two or $10 for one. If you wait and buy tickets at the door, all tickets are $10 per person-so don’t wait. Buy your WPA tickets today! Your outside date should already be registered, make sure you bring your ID, wear appropriate attire, and keep the dancing clean!
  • ATTENTION ALL COUGAR CRAZIES! Shawnee Mission Northwest will BLAST FROM THE PAST for Friday’s night’s WPA game against Shawnee Mission East. Wear your retro gear at Friday night’s game and support your cougar basketball teams! Ride the tide of NW pride!
  • Seniors: The Betty Charlton Scholarship, a $1,500 award, is given to a senior with school and community involvement. For more information or the application please check out the scholarship drawer. The deadline is March 31, 2010.
  • KUGR Radio and TV class will be holding open auditions for Morning Announcement Anchors and Radio Booth Personalities Tuesday, February 16th, at 3:00 pm in room 153. Pick up an application beforehand from the room 153 door. Please note that students with out at least 2 teacher recommendations will not be considered and applications are due at the time of your audition. Don’t forget to bring in a sample piece of your own to perform. See you there!
  • Attention all girls wanting to try out for soccer in the spring. A meeting will be today at 2:50 in room 121. If you cannot attend the meeting or if you have questions, please see Coach Boren in room 121.
  • Attention Seniors: If the started school in Shawnee Mission as a student in an ELL center program at elementary, middle or high school level, you are eligible to apply for the Shawnee Mission English Language Learner Scholarship worth $1,000. See Mrs. Barnett in the Counseling Office for an application.

  • Attention junior IB diploma candidates. New College of Central Florida is interested in having Mr. Sanderson nominate two of you as possible candidates for admission there in two years. I have information on the school, and if you are interested stop by the IB office and check it out. I need to do the nomination letter Friday.

  • Teachers, don’t forget to hand out progress reports 4th hour today. If the student is absent please give it to the student next Tuesday.
  • HELPER Club Valentine’s Day Party today after school in room 234. Great treats, people to share them with and community service available. We will be sending thanks to soldiers in Iraq tonight in our custom of celebrating and giving to others. Do good and feel good about it!
  • There will be a brief National Art Honor Society meeting at 2:50 in room 9. All members need to attend so we can do a head count. Be there!
  • Congratulations to the Varsity and JV wrestlers for their outstanding performance last night. The Varsity defeated Topeka Washburn Rural 54-24 with wins from Reed Bowker, Colby Everett, Colton Almos, Ross Whitmore, Dylan Swoyer, Ed Spaunhorst, Will Greenhaw, Bobby Urteaga, Scott Gdanski, and Grant Berning. JV won all but one match. Chandler Gordon, Esdras Cisneros, Dylan Alexander, Jordan Masingale, Josh Meigs, and Dreu White all came away with victories. Great job guys and congratulations on an awesome senior night and a season dual record of 7-1. Saturday is the Sunflower League Tournament here at Northwest. Wrestling starts at 9:00 a.m.
  • If you’re an artist or writer this is your very last chance to submit your art for this year’s Penpoint Literary magazine. Turn your submissions into Mr. Pabst in room 155 or in the Penpoint box in the library before February 19th. Please don’t miss your chance to have your work published.
  • The Annual Great Works Concert will be held at Community Covenant Church, 15700 W. 87th Street Parkway, Lenexa, Tuesday, February 16th at 7:00 p.m. admission is free. The concert will feature the Northwest A Capella Choir & Chamber Singers, the Northwest Chamber Orchestra, and a combined performance of Mozart’s “Regina Coeli”. Please come out to Community Covenant Church to support your Cougar Musicians in this evening of making beautiful music together!
  • Seniors: The applications for the Shawnee Mission Scholarships are now available in the counseling office within the scholarship drawer. The scholarships, available to only seniors within the five Shawnee Mission Schools are a great opportunity. These scholarships MUST BE TURNED IN TO MR. GIACALONE by March 12, 2010. Only applications that are (1) in by March 12th to Mr. Giacalone, (2) fully completed in all sections and (3) printed or typed in a legible manner will be considered.
  • The Education Council at Research Medical Center is sponsoring a Hearth Career Fair on March 9th. The purpose of the fair is to provide information for those starting or advancing a health care career. See Mrs. Barnett in the Counseling Office for more information. Those planning to attend must RSVP by February 26th.
  • If you are interested in becoming a future educator….come to the College Night for Future Educators at SM West on February 17th from 6:30-8:30 pm. Colleges will have representatives with information about their Education Degree Programs. The Program is open to students from the 9 neighboring Kansas School districts.
  • Attention Northwest students interested in Track & Field. If you missed the informational meeting to sign-up for the track & field team. You must see Coach Cooper in room 212 by the end of next week to participate on the team this spring.
  • Congratulations to the following Northwest students who took 1st Place at the Shawnee Mission District Level in the 2009-10 PTA Reflections contest. Kendra Jones in Visual Arts, Cassandra Osei in Literature, and Aaron Thornburg in Musical Composition. These students will now advance to the Kansas State Reflections Competition.
