- Our school woodworking show is today in the mall in front of the main office. My students and I invite you to visit to see all the excellent work they have done this year. Students are available to answer questions if you are so inclined.
- Award winners from the Research and Development Forum are indicated by trophies, certificates and ribbons. Once again this year, NW students gathered 4 of the 8 Grand Awards and 3 of the 5 Technology Awards possible.

- Fundraising forms from Dutch Mill and Earth Candle companied must be turned in today so that orders can be placed tomorrow. Community service hours are available for these sales. Come to room 234 today after school and close out a great year with some really nice people. Games to commence after faculty meeting and awards.
- Ben Folds! The Shins! John Legend! John Mayer! Michael Buble! Those guys won’t be there tonight, but their music will! Come to the Northwest choir performance tonight in the Parker Auditorium. Concert starts at 7:00.

- The Boys’ Varsity tied for 4th at Regionals Saturday. Congratulations to Max Wiebrecht and Hunter Holman for taking 5th by beating Boris Houston and Connor Holman who took 6th. Both teams will be playing at State this Friday at SM East. Singles players Calvin Garland and Argun Kumar played well but unfortunately came up short. The doubles team of the day was Boris Houston/Connor Holman who won their first match 10-8 in the third set super tie-breaker and their third match 16-14 in the third set super tie-breaker. They fought off ten match points against them to qualify for state. Great playing and good luck at State. It starts at 12:30 this Friday. Hope to see many people there to cheer us on!
- Don’t forget about the Girl Effect meeting on Tuesday morning at 7:10. It will be an awesome meeting, and new members are welcome!
- Six letter word for crossword puzzle winner…Marcus! Jessie Marcus, come to the library for your fabulous prize!
- Track and Field Varsity competed in the showcase meet for Johnson County track and field athletes. These members of the girls team earned medals—Christine Nelson and Lisa Imgrund finished 1st and 2nd in the 1600 meter run, and Erica Brand won the discus and finished 3rd in the shot put. Three members of the boys’ team earned medals-Keaton Jones and Aaron Thornburg also finished 1st and 2nd in the 1600 meter run. Junior Seth Kotzman became one of the best hurdlers in the area with a 2nd place in the high hurdles and 3rd in the intermediate hurdles. All JV athletes should report to practice today to determine who is competing on Tuesday’s Sunflower League meet. Uniform check-in is Thursday after school at the track and field office.
- Helper Club season finale in room 234 tomorrow after school. Come have some refreshments and strategize for next year. Awards and games will commence after the faculty meeting. Also, Bulb and Candle fundraising forms and checks need to be turned in today or tomorrow to get those orders placed. Join a group that cares!
- The senior final exam waiver list is posted on the windows in the main office. If you have any questions see. Mrs. Illum. A final updated list will be posted tomorrow afternoon and e-mailed to the teachers. The non-senior AP and IB waiver form will be available starting Tuesday, May 11th and is due back to Mrs. Illum May 19.

- The Northwest CCC received first prize Saturday morning from the City of Shawnee for having the most workers for their city beautification project. The CCC was given a check for $250.00, a dinner, and a Pizza Party this Tuesday. On May 6th, the Salvation Army awarded the CCC its grand award for collecting more money in their Christmas Bell Ringing project. A. J. Spencer received a special commendation for the president of the United Missouri Bank for his work with young children at Benninghoven Elementary School. Congratulations to all our CCC students for doing such an outstanding job with volunteering.

- Future Teachers of America members will meet tomorrow at 7:00 a.m. in room 230. We will be voting on this month’s Teacher of the Month. This will be last Teacher of the Month Award for this school year so get all nomination in by Wednesday to room 230. We will also be electing our President for next year so come with nominations and our vote!
- All National Art Honor Society members need to bring their member shirt or another shirt to tie dye to the meeting, Thursday, May 6th after school. We will meet in Room 9. See you there!
- JV Softball closed out their season Tuesday night with one win 14-13 and a tie 8-8 against SM East. The Cougar offense was red hot led by sluggers Tayler Sherrill and Cortney Weaver. JV Softball ends their season with 8 wins 8 losses and 1 tie. Please recognize the following players and managers for all their effort and support to make the JV Softball program a success this year: Tayler Sherrill, Stephaine Reintjes, Katie Moody, Ashlee Crane, Cortney Weaver, Melodie Aldrich, Jenny Williams, Katie Roberts, Bailey Letts, Krissa Samuelson, Taylor Pettit, Misha Modiri, and Iago Silva. You get a high five.
- The SMNW Forensics team ended their competitive season by medaling 4 competitors at Lansing and one at State. At Lansing, Briana Savior placed 6th in Poetry, Amit Bhatla placed 3rd in Oratory, Makela Hayford placed 1st in Impromptu, and the team of Amit and Makela placed 2nd in Improvised Duet Acting. At the 6A State championships, Elodia Terrazas and Khadijah Watson placed in the top 12 in Duo Interpretation. Khadijah Watson received a medal for her 3rd place finish in Prose. Congratulations to all SMNW forensians for their accomplishments this year.
- The final Key Club meeting for the year will be Friday, May 7th at 7:10 in room 155. Members should plan to attend to honor the seniors, recognize the members and get updates on service hours.
- Attention Junior level diploma candidates. You need to bring in the money for the coupon books to TOK tomorrow, or bring the unsold books back. Please bring them to seminar with you.
- The Boys’ Varsity Tennis team ended their duel season on a sour note losing to SM North 5-4. Bradley Vonada/Chris D’Silva won only doubles match. Singles winners were: Arjun Kumar, Connor Holman, and Boris Houston. We now need to get ready for regionals this Saturday at Harmon Park.

- Monday at Dub’s Dread your cougar golf team continued to finish near the top by taking the 3rd place team medal in the SM East Invitational. So far this season the team has medaled in every tournament. Sophomore Jackson Foth won his second individual tournament of the season by shooting a one over par 73 at the challenging course. Congratulations golfers!
- Congratulations to the Boys’ Baseball team for sweeping their doubleheader with Leavenworth yesterday, 10-0 and 8-0. In the first game Cody Ball and Derec Olson led the Cougars offense with two hits and two RBI’s each while Adam Giacalone threw another perfect game, facing the minimum of 18 batters over six innings not allowing a hit and striking out 11. In game 2 Aric Valencia and Nick Feighner had three hits each while Giacalone collected two RBI’s to support the collective pitching shutout from Jake Thompson, who struck out seven and Shane Jennison and Cody Ball. The victories put the Cougars at 12-2 on the season with their next game being Thursday versus Olathe South at ODAC.

- SENIORS: All unpaid charges on your student account must be paid in order to have your check-out sheet signed and to participate in the graduation ceremony. Statements were mailed to your home earlier this month if you have amounts due. Don’t wait until the last minute. To make the check-out process faster for everyone, please pay these charges as soon as possible by mail, on-line, or in the bookkeeping office.
- The Department of Internal Medicine and University of Kansas invite interested students to apply for the first ever Doctor for a Day Program. This is an opportunity for students to get first-hand career experience. Applications will be accepted starting today. See Mrs. Barnett in the Counseling Department for an application and more information.

- Congratulations to the Northwest poetic team of Alex Franklin, Alex Geis, Teddy Trice, and Isabel Zacharias for winning the first ever Shawnee Mission District Poetry Slam last night. They out performed the competition from the other five Shawnee Mission High Schools and won the golden microphone. And we are also excited to announce that Northwest’s own Isabel Zacharias is the 2010 individual District SLAMpion. Way to go Isabel!
- Sara Gasser received the Regnier Award at the Shawnee Mission Research and Development Forum this weekend. The Regnier Award is the highest honor given, and represents excellence above and beyond. This award comes with a $1,500 scholarship. Sara was recognized for her Interior Design 3 project, “Echo Interiors.” Congratulations Sara!

- Varsity Track and Field athletes competed in the 29th annual Topeka Seaman Invitational meet Friday night. Helping the girls’ team to a 5th place finish…Lisa Imgrund and Christine Nelson finished one-two in the 3200 meter run. Lisa broke a long standing school record winning the race. Erica Brand also broke a school record in winning the discus. The girl’s 4 X 400 meter relay team of Kirstie Sanders, Claire Thompson, Claire Marley, and Sara Hansen finished 3rd place. Scoring 1st place wins for the boy’s team were Greg Wynn in the 100 meters, Cameron Weekly in pole vault, Seth Kotzman in the high hurdles, and the 4 X 800 relay team of Keaton Jones, Aaron Thornburg, Jalen Lewis, and Michael Dormady ran the fastest time in Kansas this season. Drew Lorei jumped 6 feet 5 inches to place 2nd in the high Jump, and Aaron Thornburg ran a lifetime personal best for 2nd place in the 3200 meter run. The boys 4 X 400 relay team of Seth Kotzman, Jalen Lewis, Jon Sestak, and David Fancher placed 3rd. Congratulations to all!

- This week in Gift of Life Week. The purpose is to raise awareness about organ and tissue donation. Please stop by the StuCo table in the mall during all thee lunches this week to get a form to fill out about organ and tissue donation. It’s very important to talk to your families and loved ones about this project. Our very own, Ben Meseke was able to receive his heart when a family made this important decision to donate. When you return your form, you will receive a coupon for a free Planet Sub sandwich while supplies last!

The Art Show is one night and one morning tonight at 5-8, and May 1st, Saturday morning 10-12. We would love it if you can make it as the big opening will be Friday night and representatives from the Board and Dr. Johnson should be in attendance. Art Show location 508 W. 75th Street (between Ward Parkway and Wornall on 75th Street on the 2nd floor. Parking is on the street, in the back, and in the East lot-next to Kennedy’s.

- Congratulations to the Boys’ Varsity Baseball team who behind strong pitching and timely hitting beat Olathe Northwest 4-1 in Sunflower League contest. Jake Thompson threw 5 and 2/3 innings giving up one run and two hits while striking out nine. Taylor Berthusen came in to collect the save. Cody Ball and Adam Giacalone collected two RBI’s while Nick Feighner had two hits to lead the offense. The team continues Sunflower League action today against Olathe North at 4:30 at 3 and 2.
- The Boys’ Varsity Tennis team finished 4th in league yesterday 1 point behind SM South. Has SM East won the last match, we would have placed 3rd. Calvin Garland won 2 matches to place 6th, and Argun Kumar won 3 matches to place 5th. Hunter Holman/Max Wiebrecht won 3 matches to place 5th, and Boris Huston/Connor Holman won 3 matches to finish 3rd in league. Great playing boys! We play our last match of the season against SM North next Tuesday before regionals next Saturday.
- JV Softball picked up two wins against Leavenworth. Melodie Aldrich pitched both games and only allowed 2 hits and no runs. The Cougars offense provided 32 runs within the two games, including another homerun by Bailey Letts. The final scores were 15-0 and 17-0.
- There will be a meeting for all freshman boys interested in playing basketball next year on Wednesday morning at 7:15 in room 218. Please see Coach Rose if you are unable to attend.

The teams of Freshman Collin Weems/ Sophomore Luke Moore and Junior Cameron Henry/Garrett Allen each scored a win for the Sunflower League in the very competitive match play format. Congratulations golfer’s and good luck Monday in the 2nd round of league!
- Hello Northwest-the District Art Show is upon us. This is our big, end of the year. Northwest will have approximately 40 students work featured. The Art Show is one night and one morning April 30, Friday night 5-8, and May 1st, Saturday morning 10-12. We would love it if you can make it as the big opening will be Friday night and representatives from the Board and Dr. Johnson should be in attendance. Art Show location 508 W. 75th Street (between Ward Parkway and Wornall on 75th Street on the 2nd floor. Parking is on the street, in the back, and in the East lot-next to Kennedy’s.

- On Tuesday, your golf team dominated the competition at the Washburn Rural Invitational at Shawnee Country Club winning the 1st place team medals by 17 strokes. Sophomore Jackson Foth shot a 74 to win the tournament for the 2nd year in a row. Senior David Catt shot a 75 finishing in 2nd and Junior Tanner Jarman shot a 79 taking the 7th place medal in the 60 player event. Senior Brett Dowell and Sophomore Logan Coffman also contributed to the team win! Congratulations golfers and good luck Friday in Hutchinson.
- Attention NW students! Next week is National Teacher Appreciation Week! Come to the StuCo table in the mall during all 3 lunches to write a letter to your favorite teachers who have made a difference in your life here at Northwest! Let’s make our staff feel appreciated.
- Your Varsity softball team combined for 25 runs in ten innings of play last in their double header against the Raiders. Freshman catcher Cierra Carbajo hit her second homerun of the season. Freshman pitcher Katt Cooper and sophomore Sara Male held the Raiders to just three runs. The ladies are in Leavenworth today, but you can see them take on the North Indians at home this Saturday at 10:00 and noon.
- AP exams will begin on Monday. Any student who registered for exams should consult their AP booklet or their information letter for the time and location of their tests. If a student did not receive an information letter, they should see Mr. Mowry in the counseling office.

- The Boys’ Varsity Tennis team lost 9-0 to Pembroke Hill yesterday. We did have some bright spots in the loss. #1 Doubles of Hunter Holman/Max Wiebrecht played the best they have played all year in their 10-6 loss. #2 Doubles Argun Kumar/Calvin Garland also played well. This was a great practice match before we play league on Thursday.
- The Boys JV Tennis team played their league event yesterday at Harmon Court. We finished 2nd out of 11 teams. Doubles team of Connor Mitts/Kyle McGahee and Dane Boring/Marcus Paccapaniccia finished with a 2nd place overall. Singles Charlie Schmidt finished 3rd, and Bradley Vonada 5th overall. The team was asked to do a lot for their school and they came through brilliantly. The JV boys also visited Pembroke Hill for their final dual of the day and lost 12-0. This was the final event for the JV and they will spend the summer preparing for next year. Congratulations!

- The SMNW Girl’s team had a great meet last night by winning against SM West and Turner High School. Led by all the seniors the team dominated from start to finish. The 400 free relay of Shelby Connor, Hannah Singhal, Hannah Young, and Carly Iverson was 1st and qualified for State. Connor was 1st in the 50 free, and 2nd in the 500 free, Singhal was 1st in the 100 free and 200 IM, Mallory Ayers was 2nd in the diving competition, Liz Biron was 4th in the 100 back, Megan Kirchner was 3rd in the 100 back, Iverson was 2nd in the 50 free. The girls had a nice finish to the regular season heading into the postseason with the League meet next week at Olathe East. Come on out and cheer your Cougar girls on for one of the biggest meets of their season. Way to go girls!
- Last night the girls JV soccer team walloped Washburn Rural High School with a score of 2-0. The early goal was scored by Sarah Irick from a corner kick. Isabell Miller followed up with a second goal from the lady cougars for the night. Hope Wooten and the Defense played strong the entire match to hold off Washburn’s fast paced attacks. Great job ladies!

- Seniors: The Tim Cooke Memorial Scholarship is annual award to a graduating senior student-athlete from Shawnee Mission Northwest High School. The purpose of this scholarship is to provide financial assistance to the recipient for use in attending a state accredited university, college or junior college in either Kansas or Missouri. Applications are in the scholarship drawer in the counseling office. All applications must be returned to Mr. Giacalone no later than April 30th.

- Last night the girls JV soccer team overpowered Lawrence Free State finishing the match with a score of 3-0. The first half was scoreless with many opportunities by the lady cougars. Goals finally came with less than 22 minutes left from Amanda Gossman, Kate Kapellar, and Madison Knight. The defense played strong throughout the entire match and Hope Wooten had the shutout. - The boys’ JV tennis team played SM South yesterday and prevailed 14-4. Winners in singles included Conner Mitts, Charlie Schmidt, Marcus Paccapaniccia, Morgan Barton, Tyler Holcom, Vivek Patel, Josh Gomer, and Mike Ellis. Winners in doubles were McGahee/Mitts, Schmidt/Barton, Desai/Paccapaniccia, Rupp/Holcom, and Ellis/Everett. The boys face Barstow today at home. Come out cheer them on.
- The boys’ Varsity tennis team defeated SM South 8-4 yesterday. Winning doubles were: Calvin Garland/Argun Kumar, Boris Huston/Connor Holman, and Dane Boring/Bradley Vonada. Singles winners were: Calvin Garland, Argun Kumar, Boris Huston, Connor Holman, ad Bradley Vonada. Calvin had the biggest win beating a state contender in a tiebreaker 7-3 at #2 singles. Great job guys! Play well today against Barstow here at NW.

- Yesterday in the ON Invitational at Falcon Ridge your golf team took the 2nd place team medal with an impressive score of 306. Sr. Brett Dowell won the individual medal with a 1 over par score of 73. Sr. David Catt, Sophomore Logan Coffman, and Sophomore Jackson Foth all shot in the 70’s and took home 10 individual medals in the 80 player event. Congratulations golfer’s and good luck Thursday in Topeka.
- Future Teachers of America members will meet Thursday morning at 7:00 am in room 230. We will be voting this month’s Teacher of the Month and making plans for our booth at the Carnival on May 1st. Come with ideas and a time that you can sign up to work.

- NW is sending our winning dodgeball team to the district tournament on Wednesday, April 21st at 6:30 at SM North gym. Admission is $3 and the money raised will benefit Haiti relief. Winning 3 out of 4 matches for us were: Max Weibrecht in singles, and in doubles the teams of Connor Holman/Boris Huston; Chris D’Silva/Bradley Vonada; and Conner Mitts/Kyle McGahee. The doubles teams of Hunter Holman/Arjun Kumar, and Deep Desai/Cody Brinckman won 2 out of 4 matches as did the singles players: Calvin Garland, Vik Govindarajan, Charlie Schmidt, and Marcus Paccapaniccia. - The Shawnee Mission Northwest String Orchestra competed at the Chicago Heritage Festival this past weekend. At the competition, the orchestra earned a gold rating, the highest rating, along with first place in the orchestra division. They also earned the outstanding orchestra trophy and they received the Adjudicators Award for earning the highest point total of all the ensembles in the competition in which over 30 different bands, choirs, and orchestra competed! In addition to the ensemble awards, Phil Marten and Callie Stubblefield, won “Maestro Awards” for outstanding soloists in the event. Congrats to our Cougar Musicians!
- Varsity Northwest track and field athletes competed last week in two meets…Thursday at home in the District meet and Friday/Saturday at the University of Kansas Relays. Winners Thursday included for the girls team-Joy Byrd, Crystal Osei, Amber Gates, and Kate Meinert…and for the boys team-Cameron Weekly, Drew Lorei, Thomas Verschelden, Philip Martin, and Jackson Barbour. The Kansas Relays highlights included the Championship distance medley relay team of Keaton Jones, Aaron Thornburg, Jalen Lewis, and Anthony Yates. Discus thrower Erica Brand placed second as well as Lisa Imgrund in the steeplechase. Christine Nelson ran two fantastic races placing 6th in the 1600 meter run and 8th in the 3200 meter run. The boys 4 x 800 relay team of Keaton Jones, Aaron Thornburg, Michael Dormady, and Jalen Lewis placed fifth…as well as both 4 x 400 relays…the girls team of Kirstie Sanders, Peyton Quick, Claire Marley, and Sarah Hansen…and the boys team of Michael Dormady, Jalen Lewis, Jon Sestack, and David Fancher.

- The JV softball team picks up two wins against SM West. Melodie Aldrich and Ashlee Crane were the winning pitchers. The cougar offense did a great job scoring runs. Katie Roberts lead the team in hits and Bailey Letts provided the power with a 2 run homerun over the centerfield fence. Good job JV softball!
- Last night the girls JV soccer team thrashed SM North with a score of 5-0. A hat-trick was had by Amanda Gossman with a goal each from Sarah Irick and Madison Knight. Hope Wooten and the defense played strong to keep the game to a shutout. Great job ladies!
- Come out to see some good tennis tomorrow. Play start at 8:30. SMNW has #1 & #2 doubles; SME has #1 & #2 singles. Team dinner is today at 5 pm. Only the boys playing the District Tournament tomorrow, at all 5 SM schools, will practice today. If we have rain, those boys will meet in room 223 after school.
- Last night, the girls’ varsity soccer team defeated the North Indians by a score of 1-0. Cara Lightle scored the lone goal off a free kick and Chloe Weishaar notched another shutout for the cougar defense. Great job girls!

After the awesome screening will be a dance party at Old Shawnee Town Hall. There will be a raffle for several sweet $25 gift cards, as well as music, free food, and more! - The SM North Naval ROTC team won 2nd place at the Natal National ROTC Championship in Pensacola, Florida last week. Congratulations to these SMNW students who participated as members of the team: Jonathan Altamirano, Kevin Cox, Thomas Jackson, and Greg Wynn.
- The boys’ JV tennis team played in the Gardner triangular yesterday and finished in 1st place with a commanding finish of 7 wins and 1 loss. In singles Dane Boring finished the day in 1st place. Nathan Rupp placed 2nd in singles. Conner Mitts/Marcus Paccapaniccia and Kyle McGahee/Morgan Barton finished in 1st place in doubles.
- Last night the girls’ JV soccer team conquered SM West with a score of 4-2. Two goals were scored by Hannah Alexander with other goals from Amanda Gossman and Abbey Gomer. Hope Wooten and the defense played strong to limit the lady Vikings to only 2 goals. Great job ladies!
- French Club will be selling delicious crepes with Nutella, strawberries, and whipped crème tomorrow morning in the mall for only $1.00. We will start at 7:10 a.m. Don’t wait too long! We expect to run out.
- The girls’ swim team had an excellent showing against 5 other teams including the defending state champions Lawrence Free State and finished a close 2nd. Leading the way was Shelby Conner 4th in 200IM and 2nd in 100 breast, Hannah Singhal 2nd in 200 free and 4th in 500 free, Mallory Ayers, Brittney Edelman, and Anna Enderby were 1st, 2nd, and 4th in diving, Caitlin O’Connor 9th in 50 and 100 free, Hannah Young 4th in 100 fly, Liz Biron 4th in 200 free and 5th in 100 back, Sarah Wilcox 3rd in 100 back and 4th in 100 free, Carly Iverson 6th in 500 free, and Claire Cobb 10th in 100 breast. The 200 free relay of Conner, Young, Iverson, and Singhal finished 2nd. The 400 relay of Young, Singhal, Iverson, and Wilcox finished 2nd. Way to go girls!
- In. JV softball the Cougars split the series against Olathe North. The girls, led by pitcher Ashlee Crane, played outstanding defense. The Cougars played smart offensively and f showed they can be a threat on the base paths with over 12 stolen bases in one game. Cougars won 12-3.
- All seniors auditioning for the school song tonight need to be in room 127 @ 6:30 pm. If you cannot be there @ 6:30 you need to talk to Ms. Melcher by the end of the day. Anyone auditioning needs to bring a signed contract. No contract-no audition. See you @ 6:30 in room 127.
- Seniors who would like to sing the national anthem at graduation may try out after school on Tuesday, April 27th. Pick up guidelines and sign up at Mrs. Nick’s desk in the office by Friday, April 23rd.
- Tomorrow is Day One of Northwest’s Annual Poetry Slam. This year, 81 student poets will be competing for the title of SLAMpion. Performances will begin during first lunch and go through the end of 6th hour tomorrow. Action will resume on Friday during hours 5, 6, and 7. A reminder to teachers—only Language Arts teachers are invited to bring theirs classes to the library, but everyone can watch the slam in their classroom as it is being broadcast live on Channel 22. Students-bring your food down to the library to watch the performances during your lunch period.. Food is fine, but please don’t bring any trays. If there are any questions about the Slam, please see Miss Kincaid.
- On April 7th, eleven Northwest students participated in Job Olympics at Johnson County Community College. Over 30 schools from Northeast Kansas participated in this annual event. The Cougars brought home 10 medals. Students medaling were: Beatty Smith, Jaron Robinson, Lisa Manda, Brandon Gross, Alex Estrada, Blake Atagi, and Karlyn Tolbert. In addition to the individual medals, Northwest brought home the 3rd place trophy for the teams scoring the most points. Nathan George, Hayden Butrick, Taylor Mason, and Kyle Martin were the Cougars who added their impressive scores to the team total. Congratulations to our Job Olympians!

- The Old Shawnee Society is pleased to announce the 12th Annual Junior Pioneer Scholarship Contest. The winning student will receive a $1,000 scholarship to the college of their choice. The contest is open to all junior and senior high school students who are Shawnee residents. Applications must be received by May 10, 2010. Applications are available at Shawnee City Hall, Shawnee Chamber of Commerce, Shawnee Civic Centre, and Shawnee Town or on the city’s web site www.oldshawneedays.org. See Mr. Giacalone if questions.
- The CCC will sponsor an Italian Dinner for Tyler Ryan this Wednesday night in the school cafeteria. It will be from 5:30-8:00 p.m., tickets are $5.00.
- Also: Any CCC person applying for the Executive Board next year the deadline is Wednesday, April 14th. Interviews will start Thursday.
- Robotics Team! We will be having a meeting Wednesday after school in room 216. We will be voting for the officer board, talk about fundraising, off-season projects, running for the Chairmen’s award, and discussing the newly created SMSD Cooperation Conference for FIRST robotics teams in the district.
- Attention all senior certificate IB candidates. There will be a mandatory testing meeting during seminar in cafeteria C-4 at 9:30 on Thursday, April 15th. The meeting will be short. We are covering testing procedures for your May IB EXAM. There will be a special announcement at passing time to remind you, and you will receive a pass to the meeting sometime prior to Thursday. - The following student athletes will sign their Letter of Intent to play college sports on Wednesday, April 14th at 3:00 in the cafeteria at SM Northwest. Shawn Miles and John McNair will sign with Avila College for soccer, Nicole Karley will sign with Park University for golf, and Hannah Singhal will sign with KU for rowing.
- Future Teache4rs of America members need to see Mrs. Koelker in room 230 for information on our upcoming field trip on April 21st to the Teaching Career Seminar at Indian Creek. All field trip forms must be turned into Mrs. Koelker no later than this Wednesday at 3:00 for students to participate in this Seminar.
- The JV tennis team played yesterday against Olathe North. The singles winners were: Cody Brinckman, Josh Vanderleest, Nathan Rupp, Tyler Holcom, Vivek Patel, Mike Ellis, Colby Everett, and Josh Gomer. The doubles winners were; Brinckman/Vanderleest; Rupp/Holcom; and Ellis/Patel.
- After Prom tickets will be sold during lunch all next week. Tickets are $10 each and will cost $15 at the door. When you purchase your tickets on Monday, April 20th you are eligible for a $50 prize!! There will be cash prizes each day! Buy early and win more! All juniors and seniors are invited to after prom; you do not need to attend Prom to go to After Prom. - Yesterday the boys’ varsity tennis team beat Olathe North 9-3 without playing our top 6. We defaulted #5 because of illness. Doubles winners were: Chris D’Silva/Bradley Vonada; and Marcus Paccapaniccia/Morgan Barton. Good luck today against St. Thomas Aquinas.
- Your boys’ golf team made a huge statement yesterday by winning the 22 team SMNW Invitational at Lake Quivira for the 2nd year in a row. With the 2nd lowest score in school history of 291 your Cougar golfers established themselves as the team to beat in the Sunflower League. Defending Sunflower League champion led the team with a 2nd place individual score of 70 followed by Sr. leader Brett Dowell scored 73, Sophomore Jackson Foth scored 74, and Jr. Tanner Jarman scored 74, all finishing in the top 10 at the 110 player event. Sophomore Logan Coffman shot an impressive 76 to finish in the top 15 and setting a school record for a 5 player score of 367. Congratulations golfers!

- On Saturday, the girl’s varsity soccer team tamed the Lawrence Lions by a score of 3-1. Mollie Slechta recorded the team’s first hat trick of the season, nodding all three goals into the net with her head. Tomorrow, the gfi9rls take on inter district rival, SM West. Come out and fill the cougar cauldron as we beat back the marauding hoarde.

Hannah Young was 12th in the 50 free, Hannah Singhal and Hannah Young were 5th overall, the 200 free relay of the same swimmers placed 6th. Great job girls!

- Northwest Track and Field athletes competed Friday at Blue Valley Relays. Winning gold medal performances were turned in by three relay teams…Michael Dormady, Aaron Thornburg, Jalen Lewis, and Anthony Yates in the 4 X 800 relay, Keaton Jones, Kosh Khan, Jon Sestak, and Kenneth Mings in the 1600 meter medley, and Keaton Jones, Aaron Thornburg, Seth Kotzman, and Jackson Barbour won the distance medley relay. Sophomore Eric Pinkelman won the javelin with a throw of 160 feet. For the girls’ team Erica Brand continued her winning ways taking first in the dicus and shot put. Lisa Imgrund won the 3200 meter run.

- Attention Northwest: The Repertory Theatre class will be Performing Big River: The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn tonight, and Saturday, April 10th. Come watch your favorite Northwest actors float down the Mississippi in the Northwest Parker Auditorium at 7:00 pm. Tickets are $7.00 or $3.00 with your student activity pass. Tickets will be on sale in the mall after school all week.
- Hey Cougars, stop by Bates City Barbeque tonight and Saturday, April 10th and your Girls Soccer Team will benefit with a donation of 10% of the total weekend sales! In singles Connor Mitts, Charlie Schmidt, Dane Boring, Kyle McGahee, Morgan Barton, Nathan Rupp, Tyler Holcom, Mike Ellis, and Vivek Patel swept all 8 matches. In doubles the teams of DaneBoring/Charlie Schmidt, Connor Mitts/Kyle McGahee, Cody Brinckman/Josh Vanderleest, and Tyler Holcom/Nathan Rupp. Also won all of the doubles matches. The boys are back in form and preparing for next week. Split practice on Friday.

- Yesterday the boy’s varsity tennis team beat Olathe East 8-4. Our boys did great because this is the first time I can remember beating Olathe East at the varsity level! Doubles winners were: Boris Huston/Connor Holman, Calvin Garland/Max Wiebrecht, and Chris D’Silva/Bradley Vonada.
- Thanks to GREAT weather, staff support, and student body support the Northwest Cougars threw, jumped, hurdled, pole vaulted, and ran to a first place finish in their home junior varsity meet yesterday.

- Last night the girls JV soccer team outplayed Leavenworth with a score of 5-0. A lone goal was scored by Madison Knight in the first half followed by goals from Hannah Alexander, Sarah Irick, MacKenzie Iverson, and Katie Kapeller in the second half. The defense played well throughout the entire match and Hope Wooten had the shutout. Great job ladies!
- The Independence Events Center, will host the 14th Annual HyVee/Pepsi All-Star Challenge Basketball games presented by the Greater Kansas City Basketball Coaches Association. The girl’s game will take place at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 10th followed by the boy’s game at 4p.m. Steve Carver will be playing in this game. Come out and support your Cougar basketball player.
